Pong returns to DDB as exec creative director

DDB's newly-appointed executive creative director, Christine Pong, has 'returned home' to the agency where she began her career 20 years ago.

Pong started as a junior creative at DDB and has since worked with JWT (1989 to 1994, and 2000 to 2001), D'Arcy (1994 to 2000) and, most recently, BatesAsia Hong Kong. "Eventually, I did the big circle -- I'm back," said Pong. "The DDB culture is something I can still remember after 20 years."

Over the years, Pong's work has received awards at the Cannes Advertising Awards, the New York Film Festival, the Spikes and the Hong Kong 4As. While tasked with overseeing the agency's overall creative output, her remit includes fostering talent.

"It's up to the senior management team to try and give them the best environment to grow further and to lead by example," she said. "We want to show them the best way to approach advertising."

Pong replaces CC Tang who has left to spend more time with family, before deciding on a next move. DDB CEO Tim Evill said Pong's guidance would prove beneficial to her junior colleagues.

"She understands that the success of the people who work for her is more important than her own, which I think is very important," said Evill.
