Pitcher, who recently left his position as Saatchis' Asia-Pacific, Australasia and Africa chief executive officer after 22 years at the network, is believed to have held meetings with WPP's top brass with the role under discussion believed to involve India, where a management transition is expected.
Both Pitcher and JWT worldwide president Michael Maedel refused to confirm the rumours. "At this point in time it is not correct," said Maedel.
"(Pitcher) is obviously a very much sought-after experienced manager in Asia," said Maedel.
It remains unclear how Pitcher's appointment will affect the role of JWT's North and Southeast Asia managing director Bryan Cooper.
Maedel said that Cooper's present role is to, "work directly with me as the client service man for the region".
Mike Khanna currently heads JWT Central Asia - but will step down later this year, according to Maedel. "Khanna will retire within the next six to 12 months and that might trigger a new appointment," he noted. It has been reported that Colvyn Harris, currently president of JWT's sister Indian agency, Contract Advertising, will head JWT India, when Khanna retires.
