Mya looks to boost PR role in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY - Mya Communications, a strategic PR boutique, is opening next month in Vietnam following the country's recent ascension into the WTO.

Mya has established business opportunities with a number of local small and medium enterprises, as well as a trade association with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The team of five will initially work under the advisory of independent PR consultants Steve Joel - who owns Joel Publicity in Bangkok ?and UK-based Ken Scott.

According to Mya chairman Tuan Anh Phan, an internal study conducted among 30 PR firms last year exposed a lack of understanding of strategic PR in the country.

Chief among findings was that 71 per cent ‘trongly disagreed' that strategic planning had a place in PR, while 62 per cent believed PR only meant generating publicity.
