Maddox, who joined CNN in 1998 as managing editor of the organisation's Europe, Middle East and Africa coverage, has been tasked with responsibility for a news and information portfolio, which includes five CNN services in English, CNN on Espanol, CNNj, CNN.com International, CNN Arabic and the joint- ventures CNN+ and CNN Turk. He will report to Jim Walton, president of CNN Worldwide.
"He is a veteran journalist with broad and direct knowledge of the complexities of the world CNN covers, and he is a businessman who understands the unique value of CNN's brand and capabilities, and how to leverage them," said Walton in a statement.
Most recently SVP of news operations for CNN International, Maddox was responsible for operational and administrative oversight of CNN's 26 international bureaus, among other responsibilities. Prior to joining CNN, Maddox spent 13 years with the BBC in a variety of editorial capacities.
