Thirty limited edition boxes will go on sale in Shanghai Tang stores in London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Las Vegas, and Beijing next month.
Made of ebony, inlaid with a 200-piece map of the world and lined with silk, each box contains a complete set of the 28 titles available from Luxe - a range which was recently expanded to include city guides to London, Berlin and Barcelona.
“This initiative has been run out of Asia, and acknowledges the global reach and Asian influences of both brands,” said Elaine Tai, PR and advertising manager for Hong Kong and Greater China at Shanghai Tang.
Seeking to further establish Shanghai Tang as a fashion brand at the cutting edge of the contemporary art scene, the brand is also the only fashion label to team up with an upcoming arts festival in the city.
Together with ArtAsiaPacific Magazine, Shanghai Tang has commissioned local artist Movana Chen to create a “body container” for the exhibition.
The container, which will be made entirely of shredded back issues of ArtAsiaPacific and editions of Shanghai Tang’s ready-to-wear catalogue, has been constructed outside the flagship store, and will be moved to the exhibition when it opens of 15 May.
