Lowe taps founding MD to rebuild China with local partner

Lowe China has revealed the first part of a new-look management team, sparked by a spate of recent de- partures and associated problems.

Founding managing director David Taylor has been named vice-chairman, and his appointment means he will renew his partnership with founding chairman Jason Shen.

Taylor is currently leading the Lowe partnership with Daiko in Tokyo, while creative veteran Tony Yeung will take on the group creative director role for Lowe China. The two new appointments follow Neil Cotton's recent move to deputy managing director of Lowe North Asia, including China.

Lowe chiefs admit the former management team in place was 'uncomfortable' in the market, which led to a number of problems with Lowe's local partners, both from the business and creative points of view. The problems had a trickle down effect, with at least five key departures in the last year.

Chairman and CEO of North and Southeast Asia Nigel Gilbert said the new management team had a proven track record, which would allow the agency to move forward.

"We have ambitious plans for China and you have to have a very good foundation on which to build," said Gilbert.

Managing director Tim Hennessy has requested relocation, while Lowe Shanghai ECD Andrew Reznik has moved to a regional creative role based in Thailand.
