The incumbent on the accounts, estimated to be worth as between $25m and $30m, was Initiative.
Group M will set up an exclusive media company, named WPP Team LG, to handle the business.
The appointment is more good news for WPP in the region. In December in one of the biggest account shake-ups on the Indian advertising scene, LG Electronics dropped its ad agency of six years, Lowe and consolidated its account with Ogilvy & Mather and McCann-Erickson.
O&M was tasked with handling the appliances business and McCann with the consumer electronics and IT divisions. Ogilvy subsidiary RMG David also won work picking up LG's mobile phone brief.
The account shift came as a surprise, as LG has been a flagship client of Lowe. But LG has set a stiff sales goal this year, targeting an increase of 65% over last year's turnover of $66m.
