Leader... IPL sponsors will lose out in relocation

Just one year old, the Indian Premier League looked like it was destined to become a heavyweight media property.

Now it has been thrown into disarray over security issues. The only way it can go ahead this year is if it is held overseas, England or South Africa being the two options. The time zone may be different, but not so much as to hit TV ratings. However, the real impact could be felt in future years. No live games potentially means less interest in India, weakening the power of the IPL brand among its fan base in Indian cities. For sponsors, that is bad news.
