LONDON A plan by the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) to emerge as the official global voice of the meetings and events industry have been shelved after its members decided not to support the initiative. JMIC's 12 members, including representatives from the International Congress and Convention Association, the Society of Incentive Travel Executives and Meeting Planners International (MPI), could not agree on the structure of a proposed "peak body project" and were unwilling to commit to the financial investment needed to resource the move. MPI's director of European operations and global development Mr Didier Scaillet said: "It was a case of euphoria meeting reality. "We wanted to be the driving force behind the peak body but there was no political will to invest money or resources to create it," he said.
