HONG KONG Despite what seems to be a never-ending stream of events to put a clamp on trade fairs expanding in the region, CMP Asia organised the biggest exhibition the Asian jewellery industry has ever seen last month.
A significant increase in overseas visitors and an upbeat, buoyant business mood ensured success at the 21st Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair, the largest international jewellery trade event in the Asia Pacific region.
The Fair attracted 35,890 visitors from 118 countries and regions, up 2,723 compared to September 2002.
More than 45% of visitors were from outside Hong Kong. Besides the substantial attendance from mainland China which registered 3,232 visitors, Taiwan, the US, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines were the top five visiting countries.
The number of exhibitors increased by 6.7% to 1,852 companies.
CMP Asia Jewellery Fairs manager Ms Celine Lau said exhibitors dealing in the same type
of product, were grouped together, allowing better space allocation.
"Visitors were able to spend their time more effectively at the fair and were able to make buying decisions quickly and efficiently," Ms Lau said.
