Gaxiola to Batey as Ng heads to Lowe

SINGAPORE - BatesAsia ECD Robert Gaxiola is moving to WPP sister shop Batey amid speculation that the former is downsizing after its 14-year above-the-line relationship with Nokia ended.

He replaces Batey ECD Ng Tian It, who will shift to Lowe Greater China. According to a source, the loss of Nokia “hit BatesAsia hard” and the local office will likely restructure for a regional role. “If you look at its recent Ideas hub and planning council, these have regional functions. It’s possible the agency is downsizing its local teams.”

Ng will lead Lowe creative teams in China and Hong Kong from Shanghai. “Batey is a local agency with a strong heritage and I am glad to leave it in a stable state. But I have always been intrigued by challenges and China is a huge, exciting market,” he said.

Ng joined Batey in February this year as the local shop’s first ECD since the loss of its longstanding Singapore Airlines account.

During his tenure, Batey secured Mitsubishi and potential business from Audi and Qatar Airways (Media, 13 September).
