DIARY: Stories we could tell ... Marathon man King forever on the run

As if the role of media research and strategic planning director at MediaCom isn't enough, Adrian King has taken it upon himself to achieve what few men can.

Now, lugging around a 30-pound backpack may not be your idea of fun, but King has made it his life. In fact, this is not only a man who has a sports biography, but one which Adidas named 'King of the Road' last month.

Indeed, our champion spent much of last weekend defying Hong Kong's sweltering humidity to take part in the Raleigh mountain marathon. The weekend before that, he raced along highways in the Standard Chartered Marathon. Incidentally, his marathon time was a most impressive two hours and 55 minutes.

By Diary's calculation, this man spends every other weekend battling trails around the territory. And, neither is it all in vain; he took second place at last year's Trailwalker and stole the lead at the 84km cancer charity marathon.

While we could list an endless number of wins King has under his belt, what impressed us most was his ability to find time to train. King says: "There is nowhere to train here.

So, he simply throws on a pair of trainers after work and literally runs home via the 20km trail near MediaCom's office.

Not one to rest on his laurels, King's next challenge is the New York City marathon.

So what's inspiring all this energy? King says he has "always been a bit of an athlete". But Diary has a niggling feeling that there may be an influence on the home front; King's wife is a personal trainer at a Hong Kong gym.
