CAREERS: Ogilvy steps up CRM drive with three promotions

Ogilvy & Mather has boosted the management team of its OgilvyOne units with three promotions as the group prepares to increase investment in its customer relationship management business and technology operations.

The agency has promoted Sean Rach, general manager of OgilvyInteractive, to managing director and Michael Cowell, business director, to managing director of its customer contact centre business, Ogilvy TeleDirect.

The agency has also created the new position of chief technology officer for Asia, which has been filled by Peter Johnston, to address clients' technology issues and concerns.

Rach will take on additional responsibilities at OgilvyInteractive, while Cowell will now oversee TeleDirect's overall operations and business development.

OgilvyOne Hong Kong managing director, Chris Riley, said: "Cowell has worked tirelessly, particularly during previously volatile times, to create a significant customer call centre operation in Hong Kong. The dedication and sheer determination he has applied in building up TeleDirect is certainly paying dividends."

Cowell added that TeleDirect was ready to start the "next chapter

of its development. "The call centre business has a fundamental role to play in the delivery of true CRM and as it continues to grow, it will develop more sophisticated services that assist with customer management."

OgilvyOne Asia president, John Goodman, said companies were making increased investment in customer relationship management software, client management infrastructure and internet material. He added that the appointment of Johnston would ensure "technology was a critical underpinning of all of our businesses".

Johnston, who previously worked as IT director for the Ogilvy Group in Asia, will now oversee the technology strategy and delivery for all of the OgilvyOne units - OgilvyInteractive, Ogilvy Dataservices and Ogilvy TeleDirect - and will help determine the company's technology partnerships in the future.
