Following the success of the 2005 APEC Summit, Busan’s track record as a meetings and incentives destination continues to improve. In 2005, the city welcomed 6,500 international visitors. Last year, the figure rocketed to 36,000.
Busan is the eighth-best conference city in Asia, based on the ranking of the Union of International Associations. Last year it hosted 79 international meetings and came second only to Seoul for the number of conventions hosted.
Vicky Ha, marketing director of Busan Convention Bureau says: “We are trying to attract many other big events. After the 2005 APEC summit and ministerial meetings, Busan has secured new events such as JCI ASPAC 2008, which will bring 10,000 participants from 22 countries; the 10,000- delegate World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems in 2010; the IAA Congress,
which will bring 4,000 delegates; and the 2012 Lions Club International Convention, which expects to attract 40,000 delegates from 200 countries, 20,000 of whom will be international participants.”
