Aviation body to assess Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK Thailand's top aviation body is urging the government to look at airport fees and capacity issues at Suvarnabhumi Airport, one year after the facility was launched.

Board of Airline Representatives president in Thailand, Brian Sinclair-Thompson, said unless Thailand lowered landing and parking fees it would risk losing business to neighbouring estinations as flight frequencies from key source markets would be compromised.

Business events planners have backed the review and are particularly critical of the reopening of the old international Don Muang Airport in order to cease congestion, a move that has created additional transfer time and complications for connecting flights.

The issue has hit Chiang Mai hardest, an emerging destination that has seen a lot of investment but still lacks appropriate access.
