ATP tournament makes HK exit after 13-year run

HONG KONG: The Salem Open Tennis Tournament has ended its 13-year stint in Hong Kong and has parted ways with its main sponsor, JT International, which owns the brand that gave the meet its name.

The Association of Tennis Professionals accredited tournament has applied to the ATP for permission to relocate to Beijing next year, according to its organising company Media Serv. Lincoln Venancio, managing director of Media Serv, said: "Beijing is now a very important market for many of the tournament's sponsors."

In line with a voluntary advertising code signed by tobacco giants Philip Morris, BAT and JT, the tournament also parted ways with JT, which owns the Salem brand.
