WEB BRIEFINGS: Online adspend in HK hits HK$135 million in 1999
<p>The Internet Advertising Bureau Hong Kong (IABHK) has said that </p><p>online advertising revenue in the SAR totalled HK$136 million </p><p>(about US$17.7 million) last year. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The finding was the result of a survey conducted independently by </p><p>PricewaterhouseCoopers on behalf of the IABHK. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Online advertising spend is likely to be much higher this year if the </p><p>sharp uptrend of the past year continues into 2000. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The spend in the final quarter of 1999 came to HK$58 million, a </p><p>241 per cent increase over the first quarter of the year. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>According to the report, the categories which led online ad revenues </p><p>last year were consumer-related (51 per cent), telecom (16 per cent), </p><p>computing (14 per cent), business services (10 per cent) and financial </p><p>services (nine per cent). </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Banner ads were the predominant advertising vehicle accounting for 50 </p><p>per cent of revenue. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
