Unilever hands Selecta to DDB Philippines

MANILA - Unilever has a awarded its estimated US$10 million Selecta ice cream brand to DDB in the Philippines after a pitch involving Lowe and incumbent McCann Worldgroup.

The shift came independently of the global Unilever ice cream agency alignment, which saw DDB and Lowe take the US$300 million business from McCann in January.

The reasoning behind this is that, in the Philippines, Unilever is part of a joint venture with local firm RFM, which has a say in marketing procurement.

"This is an important win for us," said Gil Chua, the CEO of DDB Philippines, which adds Selecta to Lipton in its Unilever brand portfolio.

"We now have a strong foothold on the Unilever business, and this is an opportunity for us to grow the relationship."

DDB has yet to be briefed on advertising strategy for Selecta for the rest of the year, and McCann-created campaigns continue to run.
