Tsingtao selects Publicis Shanghai

SHANGHAI - Chinese beer brand Tsingtao has handed a swathe of its creative duties to Publicis China, after the agency earlier won the company's draught beer assignment.

The agency has added the Tsingtao brand creative, previously handled by Ogilvy & Mather Shanghai, along with its Olympics marketing assignment, both which were previously handled by Ogilvy & Mather Shanghai.

“Because we are newcomers, we are young and flexible,” said Publicis China CEO Sheena Jeng. “Also, we have good lifestyle experience with brands like Ballantines.”

Tsingtao’s overall media spend in China is estimated at RMB100 million (US$13 million). The Publicis team will be led by national executive creative director Violet Wang.

“Outside China, Tsingtao needs to build its beer credentials,” said Jeng. “In China, it needs a solid, leading brand image.”
