INTERNET MEDIA: Biggest 'Net market in Asia is Japan

<p>Japan has the biggest Internet market in Asia-Pacific, according to </p><p>a joint study by ACNielsen and NetRatings. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The survey found that there are currently 15 million Web surfers in </p><p>Japan. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In sharp contrast, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and </p><p>Taiwan have a combined Internet-active population of nine million. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The significance of Japan is further underpinned by a strong 13 per cent </p><p>penetration rate; not far behind Hong Kong (16 per cent) and Taiwan (14 </p><p>per cent). </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Singapore, Australia and New Zealand have exceptionally high penetration </p><p>rates of about 30 per cent. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The findings also show that just under half of the PCs in Japan are </p><p>Internet-capable. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In addition, nearly four per cent of households have mobile phones which </p><p>can access the World Wide Web. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
