Tsang, who was formerly the secretary for commerce, industry and technology, told delegates recent cases involving the prosecution of several bars in Hong Kong over illegal broadcasting of the Fifa World Cup showed the industry was serious in stamping out the practice.
“Combatting piracy requires a public private partnership. Through several high profile case, we and Casbaa have shown pirates that we’re on their tails and we will beat them.” Tsang said the Government was currently evaluating the results of an extensive public consultation process into piracy, with proposals expected to be released early next year.
This year’s Casbaa convention is focusing on the theme “It’s all about content”.
