Edelman buys out PegaAsus in China

BEIJING - Independent US agency Edelman has taken a majority stake in local agency Pegasus Communications, at a reported valuation of between US$5 million and $10 million. Previously, Pegasus was the affiliate of Omnicom agency Fleishman-Hillard.

“We want to increase and deepen our footprint in this market,” said Edelman regional president Alan VanderMolen. “Pegasus complements our global strengths in consumer PR.”

Pegasus becomes part of the newly-formed Daniel J Edelman (DJE) holding company, alongside sister agency Edelman China, which replaced its management team of Martin Alintuck and Jeff Schultz with regional MD Charles Lankester earlier this year.

VanderMolen said DJE would explore further acquisitions in the online and public affairs spaces. Pegasus co-founder and MD Steven Cao will report to VanderMolen. The local agency counts 100 employees across Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and has a client roster that includes Yili, Volvo, Siemens, BMW and Samsung Mobile.
