DIARY: Stories we could tell ... Why's media chasing its men away?

What is it about the media agency business that has its men heading for the exit as fast as they can?

Just this week, Diary heard on the grapevine that two of the region's media hunks had hatched elaborate escape plans.

Michael Jones, who nursed The Media Edge from birth through infancy, is heading off on a quest of his own. Never one to do things by halves, Jones has apparently mapped out an expedition to see the seven wonders of the natural world in one go. On the more active portions of his journey, he'll be scaling the mighty Mount Everest, Mexico's fiery Paricutin volcano and the Grand Canyon. What brought on this lust to take in the sights in one big bite? It all started when Jones fielded an office call just as he was about to get into a cage for a shark dive in South Africa. Since getting away from it all is impossible these days, Jones felt a sabbatical was just the ticket.

Over in Shanghai, Simon Woodward's got plenty on his plate to keep him busy now that he's completed his assignment with Carat. He'll be revving up his deejaying career and there's even talk of him opening a bar in Shanghai. That's on top of him jetting in and out of Tokyo to help Carat set up a buying system. But with media in his blood - he's done the job more than a decade - there's always the possibility of a comeback.
