Diary promised we'd do The Return to The Wideboy Mansions, or was it The Hong Kong Job: Part 1 ...? You get the picture, it's time for the sequel.
It's never easy rekindling a night a few weeks after the fact, but Jasper Donat, Michael Denmark and Ed Bean and Co left something of a lasting impression, typically downplaying proceedings with a discreet entry - not via the back door of the Kee Club - but pulling up outside the front entrance in a vintage 1946 Silver Wraith Rolls Royce. Three larger than life personalities suited and booted in white - in Rat Pack revival mode.
Visitors inside were greeted by alarmingly nice door tyrants: "If your name's not on the list, you're not coming in" and once the initial frantic panic of justifying that you had RSVP-ed (with more than a few furtive cries of "Do you know who I am?" overheard) - a haven decked out in black and white awaited.
Navigating past a giant Wideboy Mansions banner signed by visitors was Diary's particular favourite - fake fur draped stairs - giving off Barbarella space pod vibes with a Mary Quant mod edge. Michael Caine film clips played on the remaining wall space not plastered with black and white vintage Hollywood photos.
With the 'who's who' from media and advertising jostling for space in the upstairs bar, in the VIP room, on the dancefloor and even, as Mickey Left Eye Denmark and Ed The Knee Bean were spotted doing - ripping it up on stage alongside a band and an endless stream of DJs - fun was had into the wee small hours.
A reflective Japs Eye Donat reminisced on Diary's shoulder: "The Mansions now require renovation following the party, but we look forward to welcoming our friends once again some time in the future. It seems empty now they've gone." Did he say Part 2?
