Landor, which helped create the packaging, said it took the yellow label further to allow the brand to stand out in supermarket shelves where Asian teas usually sport green-coloured packaging that feature visuals of scenery and Chinese calligraphy.
Most Asian tea brands are sold in tea leaf form in China, making Lipton one of the first international brands to offer Asian flavours in tea bags.
"We retained Lipton's master brand identity and featured a tea bag on the packaging to ensure that consumers would associate Lipton with Chinese tea in tea bags," said Sofan Man, Landor's design director. A marketer at the FMCG company said it was the first time that Unilever had launched new flavours as part of its Lipton master brand portfolio.
