Aegis rolls out Velocity sports marketing unit

SINGAPORE - Aegis Media is rolling out Velocity, the network's sports sponsorship and experiential marketing unit, across the region with a first operation to open in Singapore.

Former Carat New Zealand commercial director Brett McMeekin will run the unit as its managing director, with the Singapore stop over of the Volvo Ocean Race as the founding client.

Launches in Australia and China are also planned, and will serve as regional hubs.

"It has been in my plans to launch Velocity for a long time, but we wanted to launch on the back of a new client - which we have in the Volvo Ocean Race stop over," said Patrick Stahle (pictured), CEO of Aegis Media Asia-Pacific.

"Sports sponsorship is a fast growing medium in Asia-Pacific, and one which will only accelerate after the Beijing Olympics," added Stahle.

Aegis acquired Connecticut-based Velocity Sports & Entertainment in November 2004.
