Abacus expands in-store promotional offer

HONG KONG: Abacus Entertainment has launched an in-store kiosk, which allows consumers to view high quality movie trailers before purchases are made. The kiosks also offer sales promotional opportunities.

The kiosk can store up to 70 film trailers, features a touch panel monitor and two sets of stereo headphones and speakers. The kiosk design incorporates a promotional header board, which can be attached to it for sales promotions and special offers.

The left side of the screen also offers advertising opportunities, while an in-built printer can produce promotional coupons offering discounts and cross product marketing promotions.

"Companies can place their logos on the left side and when consumers touch the logo an ad or promotional item will appear," said Abacus Entertainment chairman and chief executive officer Rafael Bellavita.

In Hong Kong, music stores HMV and Hong Kong Records will feature the MK1 kiosk in their outlets.

Bellavita added that the MK1 rents at HK$3,000 (US$385) a month and is only available through licensing agreements. "Consumers can fill in their personal data on a coupon printed by the MK1 to enter a lucky draw. We can also use that information and the tracking ability of the MK1 on spending behaviour. The tracking can also help retailers from a merchandising standpoint."

The technology will also be launched in the Taiwan market in March, Korea in May and Japan in September.

The MK1 will initially target music and home entertainment shops before extending its reach to cinemas, department and speciality stores, gift and bookshops, and duty-free outlets.
