Saatchi & Saatchi's NZ Election campaign

WELLINGTON - Saatchi & Saatchi, which won the creative account Elections New Zealand last year, has introduced some "simple, but modern" icons to drive voter registration ahead of the 2011 general election and referendum.

The icons, designed to symbolise the election like a roadsign, will work alongside the now-iconic 'orange guy' character. Tim Dixon, group account director, told Campaign the primary campaign objective was to retain the well-recognised colour scheme and identity of Elections New Zealand, but to introduce new life and energy.

This will be particularly important ahead of the 2011 election, as it also includes a more complicated referendum on the election process.

In total, there will be 29 different executuons of the TV commercial to communicate key messages during critical stages of the enrolment, general election and referendum campaigns. Differentiation will be made clear via the use of orange for the general election and purple for the referendom - a colour scheme which mirrors the voting papers and ballot boxes voters will use, Dixon said.
