Participants at the Retail Marketing Seminar - sponsored by Hachette Filipacchi - were given tips on staying ahead by some of the top marketing communications professionals in Asia. A wide-ranging list of topics was covered: critical considerations in branding a city and how they differ from product or service branding; effective targeting of the rapidly fragmenting youth market in China; and an indepth examination of e-commerce's prospects in the region. More than 50 people attended the media-organised seminar, which was held in Hong Kong earlier this month.

All the winners of the Revolution Awards achieved higher standards of excellence in the field of new media marketing, according to organisers of the annual event. Heineken was chosen as the event's biggest winner along with its agencies Groove Street China and FlyingColor, taking home both the 'Best of the Best' Revolution prize and the marketer of the year accolade. Other brands which shone over the past year included an Ogilvy Interactive campaign for brewery San Miguel which won best online campaign, and Ion Global's work for Singapore's DBS Bank which received the best online brand building award.

The event, jointly sponsored by ESPN Star Sports and Reader's Digest, attracted a field of 60 golfers who played in 13 teams at the Discovery Bay Course. David Cunningham junior grabbed two wins - the longest drive and best gross prize. Particpating teams included Newsweek International, MindShare, Turner International, Time, Hachette Filipacchi, Star Group, DoubleClick, as well as ESPN Star Sports, Reader's Digest and Media & Marketing. The media Open has been an annual event since 1988.

HONG KONG: Asaba Katsumi Design of Japan has won the best of show at the inaugural Asia Graphics Awards. The design house beat more than 600 entries from around the region to pick up the top accolade for its "New Dreamscapes for the Dongba Scripts" submission for client, the Lijan International Dongba Cultural and Arts Festival. Alan Chan Design and Tommy Li Design, both of Hong Kong, picked up the most prizes - three awards and four certificates. The judges said the event, organised by media, was off to a good start. Judging standards were high - out of 51 categories, awards were given in 25 of them, while another 23 were canned.
