ZenithOptimedia on hold as Nokia readies for pitch

Nokia has started to solicit enquiries from media agencies prior to a potential pitch, which could dislodge incumbent Zenith-Optimedia.

The mobile phone giant, one of the biggest spenders in the region with estimated billings topping US$100 million, is thought to have contacted agencies for initial presentations prior to a formal pitch.

Nokia divides Asia into Greater China and Southeast Asia-Pacific, and may be considering appointing separate agenices to handle the different regions. In Greater China, Nokia already reviewed its outdoor arrangements earlier this year, shifting outdoor duties from Zenith to out-of-home specialist agency Heartland Media. The company's creative alignments are not thought to be part of review. Media was unable to contact Nokia at press time.

Nokia is also holding a regionwide below-the-line pitch related to its sponsorship of the English Premier League, with 141, Tequila and Saatchi & Saatchi thought to be in the running. (See Motorola, p4)
