ZenithOptimedia appoints Jain on specialist brief

ZenithOptimedia has lured over the head of media for Cheil Communciations in India, Mona Jain, to build specialist services including digital, outdoor and tie-ups in sports and entertainment.

The hire continues the South Asian development of Zenith-Optimedia, which relaunched its Indian operations last year after regaining the rights to the Zenith name it had lost to WPP.

Jain, due to start with ZenithOptimedia at the beginning of November, will also take a senior buying role within the agency as executive president, media buying and diversified services, though the scope of her job has yet to be finalised. She will report to ZenithOptimedia's India CEO Ambika Srivastava.

Jain will build up ZenithOptimedia's niche capabilities by fostering closer relations with Publicis Groupe stablemate Starcom, as part of a move to develop more group-based offerings. Starcom already has a well-established suite of specialised services, including outdoor unit Star Sight and a sports marketing division called Relay.

Jain will also be charged with recruiting specialists to work in her own diversified services team. Srivastava estimated that diversified services, which currently represent around 10 to 20 per cent of media spend for large advertisers, is growing three times the rate of the general media market.
