Zenith retains StarHub

SINGAPORE - StarHub has awarded its estimated S$34 million (US$22 million) media planning and buying business to incumbent Zenith.

The move sees the Publicis Groupe media buyer pip rivals MindShare, PHD and Starcom to reclaim the business after a 'closed door' pitch that began in December last year.

Zenith has handled the StarHub media account since 2002.

Agencies had been briefed to advise StarHub on business strategy as well as media strategy as the company enters a bitterly competitive year for Singaporean telcos.

"After careful and thorough evaluation of all the agencies involved in the pitch, we can confirm that Zenith Media has been retained by StarHub to continue developing and implementing a comprehensive media engagement strategy starting from March 2008," said Iris Wee, VP of marketing, StarHub.

"While all the agencies have delivered compelling pitches, Zenith Media has ultimately defended their account with a convincing proposal that leverages on StarHub's unique brand and hubbing propositions," she added.

It's been a busy start to the year for the marketing departments of Singapore's telcos. StarHub's key rival SingTel awarded its US$20 million creative business to BBDO last month, while M1 shifted its creative business from TBWA to Y&R earlier this month.
