Zenith hires COO Beck to run Diversified unit

Zenith Optimedia has handed operational duties for its Diversified Services unit in China, formerly run by China CEO Lee Li, to new hire Philip Beck.

Beck, a former MindShare Australia MD, has been running his own consultancy since serving three years as regional head of TMP's advertising and communications division from 2000 to 2003.

Li retired from ZenithOptimedia China earlier this year after nine years with the agency. Beck has been appointed chief operating officer of ZenithOptimedia China, reporting to regional CEO Phil Talbot, alongside Alex Abplanalp and Steven Chang, respectively CEOs of Zenith China and Optimedia China. He oversees ZenithOptimedia's specialised media services in China including out of home, online, event marketing, progamming and sports marketing, comprising a staff of about 120, around a fifth of ZO's China personnel.

"Twenty per cent of our staff are in an area most agencies only pay lip-service to," Talbot said. "We will continue to grow and we will continue to add more units to it."

ZenithOptimedia has also extended the remit of Hong Kong CFO Jacqueline Chan to include the mainland. Chan reports to the media agency's recently appointed Asia CFO Robin Chen.
