Zenith beefs up planning offer

ZenithOptimedia has imported Guy Abrahams from the UK to fill the newly-created role of regional communications planning head for Asia, as media agencies beef up this service offer.

Ranked as one of the 'Top 10 Best Media Thinkers' by Campaign, Abrahams was until recently group strategy director at BLM UK, where he contributed to the agency's haul of awards, including a MediaWeek Grand Prix to promote Bollywood production Bride & Prejudice and golds at the IPA Effectiveness Awards. The role is relatively new in Asia, with only a few hires made to date by rival agencies, including OMD's 2005 appointment of Leela Nair as Southeast Asia director of strategic planning. But Abrahams pointed to continuing media fragmentation not just from blogs and podcasts, but in overlooked traditional media space such as product labels, as factors that will drive the need for communications planning in brand marketing. "We are talking of a world where everyone has the ability to be a media owner," he said. ZenithOptimedia's regional CEO Phil Talbot added: "With Guy, we have employed a world-class communications thinker who will ensure each of our local offices can turn valuable consumer insight into communication plans that truly make a difference to our clients' business."
