Y&R Vietnam launches digital unit

HO CHI MINH CITY - Y&R Vietnam has launched a digital division in response to the growing market for online advertising in the fast-growing Southeast Asian country.

Headed by MD and ECD, Ram Kapoor (pictured), who was regional head for Wunderman Digital in 2001, the WPP agency began planning for a digital division last year, when Kapoor took charge.

He said: “The first thing we did was to send all teams, creative and even some in account servicing, to learn the tools of the web. We then cascaded our digital thinking through local and regional workshops."

“A key advantage we have over agencies in this market is our dual office setup - we have access to the CRM expertise of Wunderman and the ATL skills of Y&R. With the digital division to link them together, we bring a truly integrated offering to the marketplace.”

The digital division has just premiered its first work for Ovaltine by launching a new website for the beverage brand. The site has attracted over 15,000 visitors in its first two weeks.

Internet penetration in Vietnam has grown from just two to 21 per cent in the past four years.
