It also won three Gold, nine Silver, 12 Bronze and 14 Merit in various categories. Its Golden Kancil award was for its ‘Fairy Tales’ (Design Open) and ‘More Than Just Classics’ (Design Corporate Identity) for Penguin Books. The ‘More Than Just Classics’ campaign also won one Gold and one Silver for at the London International Awards, recently.

“We’ve travelled a long journey, and we've still got miles to go," David Mitchell, organising chairman of the Kancil Awards 2012, said. “We raised the bar this year to encourage our creative industry to strive for excellence to compete in the global stage. In keeping with this year’s theme, ‘Stop dreaming,’ our message to the industry is simple: Let your imagination soar and create work with a distinctive Malaysian identity.”
In other categories, Malaysia's national oil producer Petronas was awarded Advertiser of the Year. Premesh Chandran, co-founder and CEO of Malaysiakini, was presented the Media Personality Award, while Henry Tan, COO of Astro, was honoured with the Chairman’s Award.
Cheok Li Peng from McCann Erickson, meanwhile, took home this year’s Young Creative award.
“The intellectual input of this year’s work is a clear indication that the Malaysian creative industry has the ability to create something extraordinary,” Jeff Orr, creative council chairman at the 4As, noted. “The new challenge is to experiment, to defend, and charge ahead with refreshed enthusiasm.”
Update: The article was amended on 13 November to describe Petronas as "Malaysia's national oil manufacturer" instead of as a "car producer" as was previously reported.
