Duties, which include working on individual client business and overseeing strategic projects, would be assigned between the two new ECDs and himself as the need arose, Jaques said: "It's a real sleeves rolled-up hit squad."
Jaques is currently trawling for a new China ECD to replace Tan, who joined Y&R 18 months ago following a stint as ECD for DDB in New York.
Y&R is also thought to be losing regional CD Spencer Wong, who joined the agency earlier this year to work on the Colgate business, but Jaques declined to comment.
Other major regional and global clients for Y&R in Asia include Caltex, Citibank, Sony and Tiger Beer, which has just initiated a major bid to crack the UK market (see p4). Chanen previously worked with Jaques in the early '90s at Bates Hong Kong, his first advertising job in Asia since leaving his native Australia. He has also worked in New York prior to his stint with DDB Japan, as a senior copywriter for Berlin Cameron.
