YouTube names head of ANZ sales

SYDNEY - Google Australia's head of sales and operations, Kate Vale (pictured), has been promoted to the newly created role of head of YouTube sales in Australia and New Zealand in a further effort to make YouTube the world's first profitable online video site.

According to the company, Vale is charged with overseeing YouTube’s advertising and commercial opportunities in the market and bolstering the brand’s presence to better generate content. She will be based in Sydney.

Among the implementations Vale will be working with include an in-video ad product and a "Click to Buy" platform, the company said in a release.

According to Google, the purchase product recently launched in markets including Australia, Japan and New Zealand to allow users to find albums and DVDs related to YouTube videos.

Local reports do not confirm whether Vale will be replaced at Google, where she has worked since 2002.

YouTube Australia claims 4.3 million unique users each month who are exposed to marketing tactics including targeted-video and banner ads as well as branded channels. These and similar products are used by video sites to generate revenue to offset the costs of broadcasting videos, licensing content, infrastructure maintenance and operating expenses.
No online video site has been proven profitable as of yet.
