SYDNEY: A new international awards programme is set to recognise

the work of advertising industry professionals under the age of 30,

while highlighting the creative potential of students.

The YoungGuns (International Advertising Awards will be held in Sydney

on October 19 with the winners decided by a celebrated judging team of

15 drawn from agencies worldwide including David Droga (Saatchi &

Saatchi), Dave Bell (KesselsKramer Amsterdam) and Eugene Cheong (Ogilvy

& Mather Singapore).

YoungGuns director Michael Kean said the idea of the awards came from

the belief that young creatives were not getting a chance to take part

in the mainstream contests. By not participating, it meant that "young,

radical and innovative" people did not get a springboard to allow their

work to be seen by a wider audience of their peers at an early stage in

their career.

There are eight categories including television, cinema, radio and

poster.

Outside of the main awards YoungGuns is running the YoungGun Student of

the Year award with the winning getting a three-month placement at any

DDB office worlwide.
