Porter, who joined Yahoo in 1999, was most recently based in its New York office as a senior director for buzz marketing and promotional initiatives. In April, Susay resigned after 18 months, to head Merrill Lynch’s regional marketing division (Media, 30 April).
In Southeast Asia, Yahoo claims a search engine market share of 37 million users, amounting to 10 per cent of Yahoo’s global reach.
Meanwhile, Yahoo mobile marketing director Pei Wen Wong has quit “for personal reasons”, after less than six months in the role, according to a Yahoo spokesperson.
Wong took up the job after spending six years as regional marketing director at O2, before leaving to pursue personal interests. (Media, 2 June 2006).
At Yahoo, Wong was responsible for driving Yahoo Connected Life Asia. Her departure precedes an announcement made at the recent CommunicAsia forum, where Yahoo announced exclusive deals with six Southeast Asian operators to use Yahoo’s mobile search engine, oneSearch.
Yahoo also announced the official launch of Yahoo Go for Mobile, a suite of mobile software such as a weather forecast tool.
At a global level, Yahoo CEO Terry Semel recently stepped down after heading the company for six years, and has taken a non-executive role as Yahoo chairman. Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang will take his place as CEO.
