Yahoo poaches Alibaba's ad sales VP for regional role

ASIA-PACIFIC - Yvonne Chang (pictured), who recently held an executive advertising sales position for Alibaba Group, has been appointed Yahoo's vice-president of advertising sales in Asia.

Chang will be based in Hong Kong and is charged with overseeing advertising sales, partner development and marketplace operations for Yahoo Asia. She will report to senior VP of Yahoo Asia Rose Tsou.

Chang joins Yahoo from Alibaba Group, where she was most recently VP of ad sales and search at Taobao.com. In April, rumours circulated that she would resign the post, which she had held for more than a year.

Yahoo owns a minority stake in Alibaba Group.

Chang joined Taobao in 2008 after serving as VP of China Yahoo's search business. She also spent five years in sales at Yahoo Taiwan, where she helped to launch ad platform Yahoo Kimo, and held senior marketing positions at L‘Oreal Taiwan, Templar International Consultant Group, Swatch Group and Bausch & Lomb.
