Yahoo appoints Bartz CEO

GLOBAL - Yahoo has named former executive chairman of Autodesk, Carol Bartz (pictured) to the post of company CEO, filling the position vacated by Jerry Yang in November.

In conjunction with its second executive shake-up in two months, the internet portal also announced that president Sue Decker has resigned and will only remain at Yahoo while Bartz makes her transition into her new role.

Bartz has led Autodesk for the past 14 years and is credited with helping the company bolster revenues from less than US$300 million to more than US$1.5 billion during her tenure.

She has also held management positions at Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment Corporation and 3M.

Meanwhile, Yang has been reappointed to his past position of Chief Yahoo.

Yang resigned as CEO in November after a turbulent year in his leadership role that included intense pressure from Yahoo’s board members and shareholders to step down following Yahoo's rejection of a US$47.5 billion acquisition bid from Microsoft.

Yahoo’s financial difficulties that followed forced the company to lay off approximately 10 per cent of its employees worldwide, including in Asia-Pacific.
