It is thought that the pitch has been called because of the departure of marketing director George Li, who hired incumbent DMG to handle the brands, in favour of Saatchi & Saatchi. Xian Janssen later shifted three more brands to Ogilvy & Mather, and gave one brand to Draft FCB. Gastrointestinal drug Motilium is Xian Janssen’s top brand, with media spend of Rmb 200 million (US$30 million).
Gyno-Daktarin, a thrush medication, competes against local brands such as Jie Er Yin, Fu Yin Jie and Kang Fu Te - all of which have placed TV at the core of their media strategy.
It is unclear if DMG will defend its hold on the accounts.
