WPP wins HSBC global marketing account

WPP has won the HSBC Group global marketing services account, after a closely fought pitch against Interpublic and Omnicom for the US$600 million business.

J. Walter Thompson will lead the advertising account worldwide, supported by Red Cell on strategic planning and Group M, whose MindShare and Maxus media agencies will handle media buying and planning. The below-the-line services will be allocated on a market-by-market basis, however, in Asia, 141 will lead direct marketing. Bates Asia and Batey will also work on the account in Asia-Pacific.
