WPP ordered to pay $3.5m in dismissal case

MANILA: A Philippine labour court has ordered WPP to reinstate former MindShare managing director Jocelyn Galera and to pay her US $3.5 million in an illegal dismissal suit filed over a year ago.

WPP has lodged an appeal with the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), and current MindShare managing director, Minda Lansang, said the case was on-going.

Galera was dismissed in December 2000 after 15 months with the firm.

She said the case had "stigmatised

her and she was unable to find work.

An NLRC source said the review could take two years. If the decision is re-affirmed, WPP is expected to go before the Court of Appeals.
