WPP launches Kinetic in China

SHANGHAI - WPP's out of home media specialist Portland China has been brought under the Kinetic umbrella with a formal opening and an exhibition of cutting edge OOH technology in Shanghai's Infitini Square.

Now known as Kinetic China, the company will remain under the auspices of Portland managing partner Jim Liu, who retains that title and his base in Shanghai. Kinetic China also has offices in Beijing and Guangzhou.
“What this gives us is an opportunity to use local Portland team’s knowledge, while combining it with Kinetic’s international reach and experience,” said Kinetic global CEO Eric Newnham (pictured). “As we’re a specialist company, we’re firmly behind OOH as a medium,” he added, arguing that he believes the future will be especially bright for OOH in China.

“With other traditional media, technology dilutes them, makes them relevant – for us, that’s simply not the case: technology is our friend,” Newnham said while opening the Infiniti Square exhibition, which was also attended by Alex Thompson, CEO of Kinetic Asia Pacific.

Kinetic China’s main competitor is Posterscope.
