WPP creative hotshop Contract has secured Sunday Communications' brief, strengthening its hold on Hong Kong dominant telecoms player PCCW's brand portfolio.

The agency, which already handles PCCW's channel business and mobile services, took the Sunday brief from incumbent TBWA without a pitch. According to a source: "Contract previously handled the launch of PCCW's 3G brand and the trial campaign is reported to have generated strong results."

Contract's appointment comes as PCCW's chairman Richard Li moves to sell his 23 per cent stake to a local financier for US$1.2 billion in a controversial deal.

Before the stake sale, Li had been in discussions on offers worth up to US$7 billion from Australian and US investment houses for the company's telecoms and media assets.
