WPP hires Kang to integrate LG with sister firms

SEOUL: Elliot Kang has been appointed to the newly-created position of chief operating officer of LG Ad, a month after WPP purchased a controlling 35 per cent share of the agency.

Kang was previously with Kang & Lee, a New York-based multicultural agency that specialises in advertising to Asian Americans. Young & Rubicam acquired Kang & Lee in 1998.

"My role is to manage WPP's investment in the agency by creating the right environment that can truly make individuals perform their best as advertising professionals," said Kang.

Miles Young, Ogilvy & Mather Asia-Pacific chairman, who has joined the main board of directors of LG -Korea's second-largest agency after Cheil Communications - will also help in this task. Part of the challenge said Kang "is to integrate LG Ad with both the Y&R and Ogilvy networks while allowing the agency to retain its distinctly Korean culture".
