Wong quits Weber for Ruder Finn

Mike Wong has departed Weber Shandwick to become Ruder Finn Asia vice president and managing director of its Hong Kong office.

The appointment comes two months after Ruder Finn Hong Kong's previous MD, Anissa Wong, announced her resignation from the agency. Wong previously occupied the position of director of the corporate and financial practice at Weber Shandwick. At Ruder Finn, he is expected to expand the agency's offering and build its corporate and financial client base. "It's a good career move for me, and I guess my role here is two-fold," explained Wong. "First is to run the office. Second is to expand the client base and go after more corporate and finance clients." Ruder Finn Asia president Louise Harris noted that Wong's arrival will "add a lot of value to our North Asia operation." "It's a strategic decision for our corporate and finance practice in the region." Wong spent five years at Weber Shandwick, where he handled clients that included Invesco Asia, Prudential Financial, MasterCard International and Goldman Sachs. The news follows Ruder Finn's successful pitch for the GE Healthcare account, based out of the agency's Shanghai office. The appointment follows Ruder Finn's win of regional client GE Healthcare out of Shanghai. The agency will handle all corporate and marketing communications for the account, which will be headed by healthcare director Selinde Dulckeit at Ruder Finn Shanghai.
