WIRED FOR VIRTUAL CONTACT

My favourite sites are disney.com (for the stories and games), discovery.com, and animal.discovery. com (Animal Planet site). I usually spend about an hour online and surf at home using my father's or aunt's laptop (if they are not doing their homework). If we are travelling, I go online at web cafes (if my dad allows me to - he pays the bill!). I use the web to check and send emails to my friends at school. Sometimes, I surf sites recommended by my aunt or teacher - these are usually educational and fun.

I seldom use a mobile phone because my teachers do not encourage the use of mobiles at school. Sometimes, my parents allow me to carry and use one to call them after class for a ride home. That's when mum and dad come in handy! If my dad travels overseas and sends SMS, my mum allows me to send a reply by SMS. Depending on the availability of a PC or laptop, I would usually use email four to five times a week.

The web search engine Google is invaluable for research.

I also like websites such as newasiawoman.com.sg and thestarlitecafe.com, which is a poetry site.

My MSN Messenger is on all day, but I probably use it and other similar programmes - either surfing or emailing - about half the time that I'm online.

I surf the internet mostly while I'm at work for work, at home for fun and in cafes while travelling.

The types of activities I do on the internet are mostly research, email obviously, and, games.

I use email for work, to keep in touch with friends and every so often for online auctions.

Texting is the new way of talking, so yes, I SMS very often.

In fact, I SMS so much I can type a message without looking at the keypad.

Now, how cool is that?

My work requires me to be based in Hong Kong, but I travel to India frequently (every two or three months) to visit family and friends.

I go online everyday at home and at work using broadband access. I spend nine hours at work, for most of which I am online! On average, I guess it would be five to six hours that I spend on the web each day.

In India, I mostly surf news sites such as samachar.com, which is linked to all newspapers and magazines in India, and sports sites like khel.com and cricket.org.

In Hong Kong, it's expat sites like geoexpat.com for advice and information.

I use HSBC's online banking and trading services. Yahoo's messenger is great. It lets me communicate via a webcam with my family in India. Kazaa.com, a peer-to-peer network, is another regular site I visit for downloading music and videos.

I use the web for email, games, surfing, research and video conferencing.

I have three gadgets in my tiny briefcase: a Nokia 9210 PDA/phone, a Canon IXUS v3 digital camera and an IBM Thinkpad x30.

First thing in the morning, I check my email and surf the news sites for local and global news.

The Nokia phone is useful when I need to send SMS urgently and the full function keyboard is helpful for speedy key-in and for Chinese character input.

I travel a lot in China. The Thinkpad, equipped with a GPRS PCMCIA, enables me to download emails while I am waiting for my flight at the airport lounge. The transmission speed is OK for email purpose but I would not suggest to use it to surf the web.

When I am home at night or on the weekend, I check my email and surf the web as usual but with a bit of freedom; I have installed an ADSL with wireless connection at home so that I can have a cold beer with my golden retriever next to me.
